Our trip to Zambia in 2025 was remarkable. Our students were fantastic ambassadors for our school.
Some of the highlights:
– Distributed food to 85 families
– Bought uniforms, shoes, copies for orphaned children
– Painted the playground equipment in the Cheshire Home
– Dug and cleared a field in the Cheshire Home for a new building
– Harvested rice
– Visited the poorest of the poor
– Cleared and planted school gardens
Action Zambia is a school based charity in Coláiste Chiaráin, Leixlip, Co. Kildare. We were set up in 2009 and every two years we bring students from the senior years in our school to Zambia to volunteer in charity work.
The students and teachers who travel all fund their own costs through individual fundraising. In the past, these have ranged from selling cakes to sponsored walks, quizzes, etc.
100% of group fundraising goes directly to our projects in Zambia. We have done bag packs, bingo, bazaars, sponsored walks and firewalks.
Our projects in Zambia have included bringing out a 40ft container filled with 100 computers, hospital beds and a tractor. We have helped build a piggery, helped out in the fields, visited families afflicted with AIDS, made bricks and visited orphanages and Cheshire Homes.Â
We have a Sponsor A Child programme which has helped children complete school and university who otherwise would not have been able to.
AZ Project 2025 aims to raise funds to build a kitchen for Sr Peggy’s pre-school in Limulunga (western province) and also to build science laboratories in Fr Michael’s secondary school in Pemba (southern province).
The children attending Sr Peggy’s pre-school are orphans who are cared for by their older siblings or by their grandparents. They are provided with a breakfast before school begins and they are given lunch before they go home. Help us achieve these AZ Project 2025 goals and give the children attending both of these schools the chance of a better future!Â
